Moving Tips

Preparing for your house move.

  1. Book your move as early as you can, with the Little Removals company Ltd you can book your provisional date and if and when it changes just let us know. It’s our job to move this around to suit your needs. All we ask is 48 hours notice, any solicitors should give you lots more notice than this so it shouldn’t be a problem.
  2. Start to lighten the load. Moving time is great for a clear out and get rid of the old stuff that’s been clogging up your loft and or attic! If your attic and or garage is full and you don’t have space right away you can always book a containerised space with The Little Storage Company Ltd. We can get this all sorted for you, so you don’t have to make that call.
  3. Who’s doing the packing? The Little removals Company can look after your packing from top to bottom. If you don’t have the time we can do everything from the packing, the move, then the unpacking. It’s been done on a few rare occasions. However, should you prefer us just to pack up those more delicate items, then we’d be more than happy to do a part pack. If you are doing the packing the better the labelling the quicker the move, and if it can fit in a box, box it.
  4. Home insurance or extended insurance? Insurance on a house removal can be a bit of a head scratcher. Often not mentioned until it’s too late, we at The Little Removals Company like to be totally transparent. Like most removals companies we have a standard across the industry £40 limited liability per item. This can be extended with no fuss at all and it’s never very expensive. However do check your home insurance, because 9 times out of ten you’re already covered. Why pay twice?
  5. The unexpected. We have and can cope with just about anything, preparation is always key though. If you have a 1 bed apartment and we quoted 1 luton van over the phone, but really your 1 bed has three living rooms full of books and two drawing rooms full of pianos we will still get your move done, but it’ll take more time and potentially more vans. Always let us know of any unusual access, bigger more difficult items and lengthy or difficult access. It’ll make the day much smoother.
  6. Parking and permits. We always use luton vans, they generally take up the space of two normal sized cars. The closer we can park the quicker and simpler the move will be. If possible let your neighbours know you’re moving and ask for their permission to pinch their spot. If you need permits, please arrange these and let us know. If you have a drive but the access is steep or very narrow, just let us know. We have vans to suit any job.
  7. Yorkshire tea but if we’re lucky Barry’s. The guys will just want to crack on when they get there, it’s super helpful though if the guys do get the odd cup of tea or coffee, a sugary biscuit always helps too. The guys will drink and eat on the move!
  8. Relax and leave them to it! On the day the team will be well experienced and will be happy to just get on with it and deal with the job in hand. Some clear direction and specific instructions to the driver if necessary.
  9. Final sweep. Once the team has finished up and have got everything packed up and ready to go, do one final sweep of the property and make sure they have everything that needs to go. Once you know we’ve got all that needs to go the team can head off to the next property. Remember they are in a loaded van that has limited speed limits, different to cars. It’ll take them a little longer to get to the property. If this is between 12 and 2PM this is a perfect time to go and wait for the key collection. Being there when the funds are released will save time and money.
  10. Almost time for that bottle of wine. Once the team has arrived, if there are specific instructions please just let them know. Unpacking the vans is always a lot quicker; only you know where you want everything to be though, and if you change your mind that’s no problem. The team will happily shift things around and put things up until you’re happy for them to leave. The team on the day should have a satisfaction questionnaire should you wish to fill it out. Now relax and enjoy that bottle of wine or cup of tea. ( The kettle should be in a labelled box!! )
